Camporee Weekend is Here!

It is finally Texas Conference Camporee Weekend! The theme this year is "Here Am I." This is the answer of the Prophet Isaiah, when called.

Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying:
“Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us?”
Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.”
Isaiah 6:8 (NKJV)

As Pathfinders we are called to service, to mission. We are not just a group that gets together to go camping, not just a place for kids to have fun with friends doing crafts or hiking. The Pathfinder Club provides a Christian environment where youth can enhance their relationship with God, and serve others; fulfilling the two great commandments, Love God, Love your neighbors. This past weekend, many of the SAIL Pathfinders learned disaster preparedness with the Adventist Community Services, and one of the youth even completed their training to serve as a registered volunteer in times of need. Our theme at our club Christmas party last December was service, and we made disaster relief kits to donate to ACS for their work (and interestingly, at the training over the weekend, it was one of the kits made by one of the SAIL Pathfinders that was used as the example). Below  you will see reports of other service projects. many of the pathfinders also volunteer on their own, or with the Church food pantry, or working A/V or participating in the service at church, or helping lead Vacation Bible School. It is a joy to see the youth eager for service, and I ask you all to encourage them as they share God's love through their actions!

March 4: Junior Unit Service Project - The Junior Pathfinder unit has a service project this Sunday, March 4. We will be doing some yard work for an elderly couple who need some help. Please bring gloves if you have them. We will be raking pine straw and moving dead limbs. We will leave from the church at 9:30 a.m. and plan to be back by 3:00 p.m. You will each need to bring a sack lunch and a water bottle. For additional information, please contact Miss Cathy.

March 7, March 21: SAIL Pathfinder Club meetings - We will begin preparation for the Texas Camporee. If you have been working on any honors, please bring all material completed (butterfly identification, shell collections, written work from the Honor Fair, origami, etc). Also please check that you have all the proper elements of your Class A (Full Dress) Uniform - INCLUDING black socks! We will need to put in an order for badges and uniform parts soon. Senior Unit, remember to bring back your borrowed backpacks and the tents on the 7th.

March 11 (Tentative activity): CTX Practice session for Texas Camporee.

April 5-8: Texas Conference Pathfinder Camporee at Lake Whitney Ranch - This year’s theme is “Here I Am.” You can find additional information about the events and if you need one, a letter of excused absence or early release from school on the CTX Pathfinder website or at the Texas Conference website. We will be registering as a club (please do not attempt to register yourself on the website), and will need a final headcount by March 11. The fee per SAIL Pathfinder and staff is $25. NOTE: If you have not been regularly attending the SAIL Pathfinder club meetings, you will NOT be allowed to participate in the Camporee, as per the SAIL Pathfinder Handbook. If you are unsure of your status, please contact Mr. Baker or Miss Cathy.

Texas Conference Camporee - Fearless in Christ

4/6/2010

We are back from the Texas Conference Pathfinder Camporee, which was held at the new Lake Whitney Ranch April 1-4. The theme this year was Fearless In Christ, and the speaker was Pastor Bob Holbrook, the former World Pathfinder Director.

Setting up Thursday was a bit of a challenge in the high winds, but it was also a good test of the SAIL Pathfinder Club's new tents, which held up well in wind, sun and rain. Thursday night, we saw the protective hand of God, as, in answer to prayer, the hail storm that was bearing down on the campsite after midnight split apart and passed around us, leaving us dry (even if a little wind-blown).  Christ on the stormy sea asked his disciples why they feared the storm, and he showed us again why we need not fear the storm.

Friday the SAILs competed in the various events, including knot tying and lashing, relay races, Morse code, identification of fruits and nuts, a community service briefing, soccer and an obstacle course. There was a little rain on and off in the morning, but the sun came out in the afternoon to dry things. Sabbath began with flag raising and club inspection, followed by a parade of the 3500 Pathfinders in full dress uniform past the reviewing stands. After church, the SAILs had lunch with Knights, before heading back down to the main tent for some Sabbath afternoon activities. Sunday morning was the award ceremony; the SAILs received a second-place ribbon for the Camporee.

Over the next few days, we will share some of the Pathfinders' own recollections of the Campore, but until then, a few pictures follow.
